Nominations sought for student employment awards
Jan. 18, 2002
KALAMAZOO -- Nominations are being sought for two awards associated
with Western Michigan University's annual observance of Student
Employment Appreciation Week, which will take place Monday through
Friday, Feb. 18 through 22.
WMU celebrates Student Employment Appreciation Week each February.
The week is sponsored by Career and Student Employment Services
and dedicated to all of the student employees who help to make
the University a valuable place to learn new skills and develop
competencies for future success. The theme for this year is "Helping
You Build a Better Future."
A highlight of the weeklong celebration will be an awards
reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, in the West Ballroom
(rooms 209 and 210) of the Bernhard Center. The event will honor
the Student Employee of the Year and Supervisor of the Year,
along with the awards' other 2002 nominees and their nominators.
Nominations for the awards are being accepted through Feb.
8. Online nomination forms are available on the <www.broncojobs.wmich.edu>
Web site. Paper nomination forms are available for pick up at
Career and Student Employment Services on the first floor of
Ellsworth Hall.
Graduate as well as undergraduate students may be nominated
and will be judged on their reliability, quality of work, initiative
and professionalism as well as the uniqueness of their contributions
to WMU. Supervisors who are nominated will be judged on their
professionalism and contributions to student learning and development.
Student employees and supervisors who have won in the past are
not eligible to win again.
Regardless of whether their units participate in the awards
program, all faculty and staff are encouraged to thank their
student workers in some way during Student Employment Appreciation
Week. Suggestions for doing so include bringing in treats for
the students, posting their pictures and a list of their special
contributions on bulletin boards, and sending complimentary notes
about them to their families.
