Popular Brass Christmas Concert is SundayDec. 4, 2001 KALAMAZOO -- The award-winning Western Brass Quintet will be joined by guest faculty and student artists for the 19th annual Brass Christmas Concert sponsored by the WMU School of Music. The free concert is Sunday, Dec. 9, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. This year's program will feature works by Chesnikov, Debussy, Susato and Wagner. The annual Brass Christmas Concert frequently draws a standing-room-only audience. Doors to the recital hall will open at 2:30 p.m. The members of the Western Brass Quintet are Kip Hickman, trombone; Stephen Jones and Scott Thornburg, trumpet; Andrew Miller, tuba; and Johnny Pherigo, horn. Guest faculty performers are Margaret Hamilton, horn; Judy Moonert, percussion; and Robert Whaley, tuba. Students were invited to perform based on recommendations of music faculty members. Student musicians for this year's Brass Christmas Concert are, trumpet: Carl Baker, Ryan Bullard, Keith Geiman, Ross Hoksbergen and Scott Toth; horn: Anne Denhof and Kristy Smith; trombone: Ben Kadow, Jeff Meador and Brian Wagner; euphonium: Michael Idzior and Robert Manning; and percussion, Chris Earley. Narration will be provided by the familiar voice of Garrard MacLeod. Now retired, MacLeod was a popular radio performer for WMUK FM for 40 years.
