Volleyball Broncos earn MAC tournament berth

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University earned the No. 7 seed in the 2001 MAC Volleyball Tournament with weekend victories over Ball State, 3-2, and Northern Illinois, 3-1, the top two teams in the Mid-American Conference this season.

The Broncos travel to No. 2 seeded Bowling Green on Tuesday, Nov. 20, for a tournament quarterfinal contest. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Bowling Green's Anderson Arena. The winner will advance to Friday's (Nov. 23) semifinal round. The semifinals and championship will be held at the site of the highest remaining seed after Tuesday's quarterfinal round.

#8 Toledo (10-8) at #1 Northern Illinois (15-3)
#7 WMU Broncos (10-8) at #2 Bowling Green (12-6)
#6 Eastern Michigan (11-7) at #3 Ball State (14-4)
#5 Akron (11-7) at #4 Miami (11-7)

Western Michigan and Ball State are the only schools that have earned berths in all five MAC Tournaments since 1997, when the league expanded the tournament field from four teams to eight. Since 1997, the Broncos are 5-3 in MAC Tournament matches (4-0 home, 0-3 away, 1-0 neutral).
