Great swing bands saluted in Nov. 16 concertNov. 6, 2001 KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's instrumental jazz ensembles will present their Annual Tribute to the Great Swing Bands on Friday, Nov. 16, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Tickets to the 19th annual performance will be available at the door. General admission is $10. Students and senior citizens will be admitted for $5. Each year the award-winning University Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Lab Band present a concert of music from the era of the great swing bands. The Jazz Lab Band is directed by Scott Cowan, and the Jazz Orchestra is led by Trent Kynaston. The Jazz Orchestra has received national acclaim for its high performance standards and creative approach to big band jazz. The ensemble's CDs, Spritely Overdue (1996), Disposable Income (1997), Blue Miles (1998), Sweet Tango (1999), and Cosmosis (2001) have received rave reviews from the United States to London, and are available on Sea Breeze Vista Recordings.
