
Western Winds perform Thursday in Dalton

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Winds, a select ensemble of faculty
and students in WMU's School of Music, will present a free concert
on Thursday, Nov. 8, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Dalton Center
Recital Hall.
The ensemble is conducted by Robert Spradling, director of
bands. The program repertoire will include a suite of movements
from Carl Orff's masterpiece Carmina Burana, arranged for double
wind quintet by Friedrich K. Wanek. The concert will also include
a work for brass and percussion commissioned by the Detroit Chamber
Winds and Summit Brass titled Motown Metal by Michigan composer
Michael Daugherty. Additional selections will be performed individually
by the Graduate Wind Quintet and Graduate Brass Quintet.
