WMU's Koestier named to preseason All-MAC team
Oct. 8, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- The Mid-American Conference has announced that
Western Michigan University sophomore Kristin Koetsier has been
named to the 2001-02 Preseason All-MAC team.
The 6-3 Koetsier joins Ball State's Tamara Bowie, Bowling
Green's Francine Miller, Miami's Kim Lancaster, and Eastern Michigan's
Stephanie Smiley on the team.
A torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee limited
Koetsier to just four games last season. She applied for and
received an NCAA medical redshirt, meaning she has three seasons
of athletic eligibility remaining.
"We're very excited to have Kristin back as a mature
and talented leader," Bronco head coach Ron Stewart said.
Koetsier was named MAC Rookie of the Year in 2000 and was
also a first-team all-conference selection. The Grandville native
was the first league newcomer named to the All-MAC First Team
in 12 years. She was also honored as a Freshman All-American
by the Women's Basketball News Service and the Women's Basketball
Journal. Koetsier scored a WMU and MAC rookie record 559 points
and finished second in the circuit in scoring (18.6 ppg.) and
rebounding (9.5 rpg.) to help Western Michigan claim the 2000
MAC West Division championship.
MAC Women's Basketball Media Day will be held Wednesday, Oct.
24, at the Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland.
