Vigils scheduled to reflect on today's tragedy
Sept. 11, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- Prayer and candlelight vigils are being held
today throughout Kalamazoo and West Michigan to reflect on this
morning's tragic events in Washington, D.C., and New York.
At Western Michigan University, members of the University
community are invited to gather at Kanley Chapel beginning at
7 p.m. President Elson S. Floyd and others are expected to participate
in the vigil service.
A second candlelight vigil will be held in "Fraternity
Village," located on Fraternity Village Drive beginning
at 8:30 p.m. That vigil is being sponsored jointly by WMU's Interfraternity
Council and National Pan Hellenic Council.
Western Michigan University closed, except for essential services,
beginning at noon today (Sept. 11). All afternoon and evening
classes at all WMU campuses were canceled. All public events
at the University today, except the vigils, have been canceled.
The University will resume regular operations Wednesday morning,
Sept. 12.
