Experts meet to discuss technology partnerships
Aug. 10, 2001
KALAMAZOO -- Dozens of the area's top information technology
professionals will be at Western Michigan University's Haworth
College of Business on Monday, Aug. 13, to discuss the University's
IT curriculum and partnership opportunities.
WMU's Department of Business Information Systems has invited
executives from around Southwest Michigan for a one-day conference
to learn about the University's IT curriculum and offer suggestions
on how to better train graduates. Organizers also plan to discuss
University-business collaborations such as student internships,
faculty externships and visits by corporate executives who serve
as guest instructors. In the afternoon, a representative from
Teradata, a division of NCR Corp., will discuss data mining and
that company's software product.
"The Haworth College of Business creed is 'partners for
business knowledge and leadership,'" says Dr. Earl E. Halvas,
chairperson of the Department of Business Information Systems.
"This forum is just one example of our outreach efforts.
It provides us an opportunity for meaningful, focused dialogue
with business leaders in our area-a chance to hash out some mutually
beneficial collaborations. This is the first of many forums
planned for the coming months and years."
