
Business scholarships of up to $5,000 awarded

KALAMAZOO -- Forty-six Western Michigan University students
were recently awarded scholarships by the Haworth College of
Business. The scholarships were awarded for the 2001-02 academic
year and range from $50 to $5,000. The students were recognized
for their academic excellence and extracurricular participation
in the college's activities.
David T. Beckering of Middleville, Mich., received
the Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a
$200 award supported by donations by WMU staff, faculty, and
alumni. A junior majoring in management and a member of the Lee
Honors College, he is the son of David T. Beckering Sr. of Middleville.
Brandon J. Behrens of Portage, Mich., received the
Bernadine Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic
achievement, given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who
was a WMU professor of business information systems. A junior
majoring in food marketing and a member of the Lee Honors College,
he is the son of Valerie A. and Joel J. Behrens of Portage.
Stacy M. Blair of Shelby Twp., Mich., received the
General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $100 award based on academic performance or financial need.
A sophomore majoring in finance, she is the daughter of Carolynn
J. and Fred I. Blair of Shelby Township.
Jennifer A. Brown of Kalamazoo received the Kalamazoo
Gazette Internship and Scholarship Award, a $2,500 scholarship
based on academic performance, financial need and essay. A junior
majoring in management, she is the daughter of Carol J. and Clyde
Brown of Kalamazoo.
Ling X. Chen of Kalamazoo received the Bernadine Branchaw
Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement, given
in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor
of business information systems. A senior majoring in computer
information systems, she is the daughter of Jian Mie Lee and
Chu Ying Chen of China.
Jamar A. Cobb-Dennard of Kalamazoo received the General
Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a
$150 award based on academic performance or financial need. A
sophomore majoring in sales and business marketing and music,
he is the son of Trudy D. Cobb-Dennard and Benjamin J. Dennard
of Kalamazoo.
Phillip A. Collison of Kalamazoo received the Arnold
and Roseanne Schneider Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic
performance and named for Schneider, the founding dean of WMU's
college of business, and his late first wife. A graduate student
in the master of business administration program, concentrating
in finance, he is the son of Shauna A. and Dennis E. Collison
of Parchment, Mich.
Jyllian M. Cunningham of Kalamazoo received the General
Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a
$50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A
senior majoring in management, she is the daughter of Belendria
A. and Herbert B. Cunningham of Kalamazoo.
Kelly L. DeRight of Paw Paw, Mich., received the Phi
Chi Theta Award, a $150 scholarship based on academic performance.
A junior majoring in integrated supply matrix management, she
is the daughter of Jane T. and Phillip B. DeRight of Paw Paw.
Seng Thong Eng of Taman Perak, Malaysia, received the
Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $200
award supported by WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A junior majoring
in integrated supply matrix management and a member of the Lee
Honors College, he is the son of Huei Min Phoong and Thian How
Eng of Perak, Malaysia.
Patricia L. Garthe of Wyoming, Mich., received Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $750 award
supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A
junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors
College, she is the daughter of Frances C. and Donald W. Garthe
of Wyoming.
Elizabeth C. Glatfelter of Livonia, Mich., received
the General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $200 award based on academic performance or financial need.
A freshman majoring in business, she is the daughter of Judith
and Charles Glatfelter of Livonia.
Eric D. Helms of Hale, Mich., received the Art and
Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade point average,
and provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor emerita of
Business Information Systems, and her late husband, Arthur. A
junior majoring in integrated supply matrix management and a
member of the Lee Honors College, he is the son of Sandra K.
Helms of Hale, and Theo P. Helms of Chelsea, Mich.
Kajuan L. Hendon of Detroit received the Chubb Group
of Insurance Companies Scholarship, a $1,000 award based on academic
performance and an essay submission. A junior majoring in accountancy,
he is the son of Monya Adams of Mount Clemens, Mich.
Kelly L. Hernandez of South Haven, Mich., received
the General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $150 award based on academic performance or financial need.
A freshman planning to major in accountancy, she is the daughter
of Wendy D. and Raul Hernandez of South Haven.
Priya Jaiswal of Kalamazoo, received the General Motors
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $150 award
based on academic performance or financial need. A junior majoring
in marketing, she is the daughter of Pushpa and K.P. Jaiswal
of Calcutta, India.
Chad W. Johnson of Mattawan, Mich., received the Old
Kent Bank Southwest Scholarship, a $750 award given to outstanding
students in the Haworth College of Business. A senior majoring
in accountancy and computer information systems, he is the son
of Jean and Dennis Johnson of Lansing, Mich.
Holli C. Johnson of Portage, Mich., received the Bernadine
Branchaw Scholarship, a $150 award based on academic achievement,
given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor
of business information systems. A senior majoring in marketing
and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the daughter of
Sherri L. and Jerry P. Johnson of Portage.
Candice S. Kelley-Hall of Warren, Mich., received the
Howard and Howard Community Investment Scholarship, a $1,000
award. A junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee
Honors College, she is the daughter of Shawn R. Hall of Warren
and Courtney D. Hall of Flint, Mich.
Tim Kool of Richland, Mich., received the Arnold and
Roseanne Schneider Scholarship, a $500 award based on academic
performance and named for Schneider, the founding dean of WMU's
college of business, and his late first wife. He is a graduate
student in the master of business administration program.
Kimberly N. Leon of Battle Creek, Mich., received the
General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $200 award based on academic standing and financial need. A
junior majoring in food marketing, she is the daughter of Evelyn
Leon of Battle Creek.
Staci J. Lowman of Hopkins, Mich., received the Bernadine
Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement,
given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor
of business information systems. A junior majoring in advertising
and promotion, she is the daughter of Cindy S. and David O. Lowman
of Hopkins.
Mildred D. Lyles of Flint, Mich., received the General
Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a
$50 award based on academic performance or financial need. A
senior majoring in advertising and promotion, she is the daughter
of Betty A. and Adolphus Lyles of Flint.
Ryan W. McCormick of Ada, Mich., received the Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $200 award
supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A
sophomore majoring in finance, he is the son of Nancy L. and
Robert W. McCormick of Ada.
Elena M. Mellen of Hastings, Mich., received the Arnold

junior majoring in marketing and psychology, she is the daughter
of Gloria and Willie Minor of Muskegon.
Danielle L. Mulholland of Eaton Rapids, Mich., received
the Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a
$200 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty
and alumni. A sophomore majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter
of Karen S. Cataline of Eaton Rapids and Craig A. Mulholland
of Sunfield, Mich.
Christine L. Mullins of Kalamazoo received the Alfred
E. Pugno Scholarship, a $225 award supported by an endowment
given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first
president of the WMU Alumni Association. A senior majoring in
advertising and promotion, she is the daughter of Debra A. Mullins
of Galesburg Mich., and William J. Fredericks of Parchment, Mich.
Brandi E. Puckett of Detroit received the Comerica
Bank Scholarship, a $1,500 award based on academic achievement.
A sophomore majoring in marketing, she is the daughter of Silvia
F. and Charles T. Puckett Jr., both of Detroit.
Kristy S. Ramsey of Detroit received the General Motors
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship, a $100 award
based on academic standing and financial need. A freshman majoring
in business, she is the daughter of Ophelia R. and Thurman Ramsey
of Detroit.
Richard C. Reynolds of Wayne, Mich., received the Bernadine
Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement,
given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor
of business information systems. A sophomore majoring in finance
and a member of the Lee Honors College, he is the son of Ann
E. and Greg R. Reynolds of Wayne.
Jeffrey D. Roche of Grand Blanc, Mich., received a
Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $75
scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and
alumni. A senior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Carol
J. and David C. Roche of Grand Blanc.
Latosha N. Rodgers of New Haven, Mich., received the
General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $150 award based on academic performance or financial need.
A junior majoring in integrated supply matrix management, she
is the daughter of Gail A. Harris of New Haven, and Willie B.
Rodgers of Detroit.
Shane A. Rodgers of Jones, Mich., received the Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $750 award
supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A
junior majoring in accountancy, he is the son of Sandra E. and
Thomas L. Rodgers of Jones.
Angela R. Rumsey of Nashville, Mich., received the
Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment
given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first
president of the WMU Alumni Association. A senior majoring in
accountancy, she is the daughter of Joan K. and Wayne A. Rumsey
of Nashville.
Jane F. Schneider of St. Joseph, Mich., received the
Art and Peg Sanders Scholarship, a $500 award based on grade
point average, provided by Dr. Margaret M. Sanders, professor
emerita of business information systems, and her late husband,
Arthur. A junior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter
of Linda M. And Terrill M. Schneider of St. Joseph.
Tamara S. Schultz of Merrill, Mich., received the Alfred
E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment
given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first
president of the WMU Alumni Association. A junior majoring in
accountancy, she is the daughter of Sandra S. Schultz of Merrill
and the late Edwin Schultz.
Psychelia V. Smith of Benton Harbor, Mich., received
the General Motors Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Scholarship,
a $100 award based on academic standing and financial need. She
is a freshman majoring in management.
Sara C. St. Clair of Lake Orion, Mich., received the
Alfred E. Pugno Scholarship, a $450 award supported by an endowment
given in memory of Pugno, a Fremont businessman and the first
president of the WMU Alumni Association. A junior majoring in
sales and marketing, she is the daughter of Carol M. DeLaura
of Lake Orion, and Roy D. St. Clair of Macomb, Mich.
John L. Thelen of Fowler, Mich., received a Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $500 scholarship
supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty, and alumni. A
junior majoring in accountancy and a member of the Lee Honors
College, he is the son of Mary Lou and Steven A. Thelen of Fowler.
Wendy R. Ulrich of Evart, Mich., received the Bernadine
Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement,
given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor

Katie L. VanderMolen of Eaton Rapids, Mich., received
the Haworth College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a
$200 scholarship supported by donations from WMU staff, faculty
and alumni. A senior majoring in accountancy, she is the daughter
of Cathy and Glenn VanderMolen of Eaton Rapids.
Julia B. Wartchow of Troy, Mich., received the Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $200 award
supported by WMU staff, faculty and alumni. A sophomore majoring
in marketing and a member of the Lee Honors College, she is the
daughter of Janice D. and James B. Wartchow of Troy.
Nicole L. Wild of Northville, Mich., received the Haworth
College of Business Academic Achievement Award, a $750 award
supported by WMU staff, faculty, and alumni. A junior majoring
in management, she is the daughter of Terry L. and Paul A. Wild
of Northville.
Joni M. Willingham of Fennville, Mich., received the
Dave Luce Memorial Scholarship, a $900 award. A junior majoring
in marketing, she is the daughter of Wilma Yates and Brenda L.
George, both of Pullman, Mich., and James E. Guthrie of Fennville.
Lee Yee Yong of Perak, Malaysia, received the Bernadine
Branchaw Scholarship, a $300 award based on academic achievement,
given in memory of Dr. Bernadine P. Branchaw, who was a WMU professor
of business information systems. A senior majoring in computer
information systems, she is the daughter of Yoke Keng Lam and
Chew Yoon Yong of Perak, Malaysia.
