
Expert to explore ABCs of marketing

KALAMAZOO -- A local communications consultant will discuss
marketing basics at a Western Michigan University presentation
Thursday, March 1.
Barbara Beardsley, account executive and vice president of
Beardsley & Company, will present "The ABCs of Marketing,"
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce
building, 346 W. Michigan Ave. The program, part of a monthly
series of workshops offered by WMU's Women's Business Development
Center, is free and open to the public.
In her talk, Beardsley will address the importance of awareness,
budget and consistency in marketing efforts.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, Beardsley has worked
with Business Insight magazine and Beardsley & Company, specializing
in public relations and sales. Co-founder of the Hospital Hospitality
House, she is a long-time community advocate who has raised funds
and otherwise volunteered for a variety of Southwest Michigan
organizations. Currently, Beardsley is a member of the Kalamazoo
Symphony Orchestra League, Kalamazoo Network, Business Network
International, Alpha Phi fraternity and the Junior League of
Kalamazoo Sustainers. She also serves as an ambassador for the
Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce.
WMU's Haworth College of Business established the Women's
Business Development Center in 1999 to offer support to female
professionals and entrepreneurs through training, group and individual
problem-solving consultation, current business information and
networking opportunities.
