Dance-a-thon supports Make-A-Wish FoundationFeb. 13, 2001 KALAMAZOO -- A group of WMU students is raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation by staging a dance-a-thon from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Feb. 17, in the Student Recreation Center. The dance-a-thon is being organized by the Little Three Community Council, the governing body for the French, Davis and Zimmerman residence halls. Participating students are soliciting donations from friends, teachers, family members and others. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event is being planned as a large party with dancing and dance contests rather than a typical pledge-based test of endurance. Donors and members of the campus and local communities are invited to attend, enjoy the refreshments and join in the dancing. A donation jar will be available for anyone who would like to stop by and drop off a contribution. Jimmy John's sandwich shop in Kalamazoo and other area businesses are donating refreshments and dance prizes. On hand for the event will be a representative from the Make-A-Wish Foundation's Grand Rapids office, which provides services to Kalamazoo and nine other West Michigan counties. The nonprofit organization seeks to improve the quality of life for children with life-threatening illnesses by granting some of their special wishes, be they visiting Walt Disney World or serving as a police officer for a day For more information about participating or donating, contact Alison Karwan at (616) 387-1406 or Kristin Dettloff at (616) 387-1292.
