BUFFALO, N.Y. -- WMU's hockey Broncos won their seventh consecutive
match with a 4-3 overtime victory against Niagara University.
The match was played on the home ice of the NHL Buffalo Sabres,
HSBC Arena, in Buffalo on Saturday (Nov. 11).
On Friday night (Nov. 10), the Broncos
defeated Niagara, 4-1, in a match played in the Purple Eagle's
home arena in Niagara University, N.Y. The two wins give WMU
its longest winning streak since November 1995, when the Broncos
won eight in a row. Western Michigan is also off to its best
season start in program history.
With the non-conference wins at Niagara, the Broncos improved
to 8-1-1 on the season. They remain 3-0-1 in the Central Collegiate
Hockey Association. WMU was ranked No. 13 in the nation entering
this weekend's action, the first time the Broncos have been top-15
ranked since 1995-96.

matches with Niagara. Following a scoreless first period Saturday,
Campbell scored his ninth goal of the season early in the second
period on assists by Mike Bishai and David Gove.
Niagara responded with three unanswered goals for a 3-1 lead
in the third period. Seniors Gove and Steve Rymsha tallied power
play goals for WMU in the third period to tie the match. Bishai
and freshman Mike Jarmuth had assists on Gove's score. Bishai
and Campbell assisted on the equilizer by Rymsha.
At 3:21 of overtime, Gove got another assist on the game-winning
goal by sophomore Ben Gagnon. The Broncos have scored at least
four goals in all 10 of their matches this season.
