The math is also mightier than the sword
Oct. 18, 2000
KALAMAZOO -- Two WMU honors students dueled in the lobby of
the Lee Honors College recently, not in the name of vengeance
or honor, but in the name of mathematics.
Honors students Roy Ringle and Jeramee Sikorski, a member
of the WMU fencing club, put on a fencing demonstration recently
as part of a class project. Under the guidance of Dr. Arthur
T. White, students in the "Survey of Mathematical Ideas"
course are examining the concept that math is essentially an
exploration of patterns. White, a professor of math and statistics,
also explores with his students the mathematical patterns in
poetry, music and art.
