
Undefeated women's soccer team leads MAC

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- WMU's women's soccer team is in sole
possession of first place in the Mid-American Conference following
a 2-1 victory at Bowling Green State University on Sunday (Oct.
1).
With the victory, the Broncos improved to 7-3-1 overall and
4-0-1 in the conference. On Friday (Sept. 29), Western Michigan
rallied from a two-goal deficit to remain undefeated in MAC competition
with a 2-2 tie versus Toledo at the WMU Soccer Complex.
At Bowling Green, the Broncos fell behind, 1-0, in the 57th
minute of play, but got the equalizer just three minutes later
when sophomore Mary Gignac scored on a header off a corner kick
by freshman Abi Morrell. Freshman Jessica Pattison scored the
winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation.
Junior midfielder Brandi Buschhausen got the assist on the game
winning goal.
Toledo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half of Friday's
contest in Kalamazoo. Bronco midfielder Gretchen Marker scored
on a header off a long kick from Morrell to trim the lead to
2-1. Markey returned the favor at the 86:16 mark, assisting Morrell
on the Broncos' second goal.
Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo for the final two home
matches of the regular season, Friday, Oct. 6, versus Kent State,
and Sunday, Oct. 8, versus Buffalo.
