Recital features works by female composersOct. 3, 2000 KALAMAZOO -- A recital of works by female composers will be presented by Western Michigan University faculty soprano Karen Wicklund on Monday, Oct. 9. The recital begins at 8 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Admission is free. Featured composers include such recognized names as Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Clara Wieck Schumann, Nadia Boulanger, and Libby Larsen, as well as Barbara Strozzi and Maria Theresia von Paradis. Two works bear special mention: Stars, I have seen them fall and In the Morning. They were written by Karen Wicklund and current WMU composition major Rachel Flanigan, respectively. Both pieces are based on the poetry of A.E. Houseman. Monday's program will also include two guest performers, WMU faculty member Christine Smith (flute) and accompanist John Goodwin (piano and harpsichord).
