Music of Brazil, Portugal featured in recitalOct. 3, 2000 KALAMAZOO -- A musical "round trip" through Brazil, Portugal, and the United States will be presented by flutist Beth Ernest Dias and pianist Francisca Aquino at Western Michigan University on Thursday, Oct. 19. The recital begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Dalton Center Lecture Hall. Admission is free. Dias and Aquino have conducted research on music for flute and piano duo and dedicated themselves to presenting the lesser known works for this instrumental pairing. To this end, their program at Western will primarily feature works by Brazilian composers Osvaldo Lacerda, Camargo Guarnieri, and Laércio de Freitas. Not to be left out, however, will be more recognized pieces by Aaron Copland (Duo for Flute and Piano) and Portugese composer Luiz Costa.
