Music of Brazil, Portugal featured in recital
Oct. 3, 2000
KALAMAZOO -- A musical "round trip" through Brazil,
Portugal, and the United States will be presented by flutist
Beth Ernest Dias and pianist Francisca Aquino at Western Michigan
University on Thursday, Oct. 19.
The recital begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Dalton Center Lecture
Hall. Admission is free.
Dias and Aquino have conducted research on music for flute
and piano duo and dedicated themselves to presenting the lesser
known works for this instrumental pairing. To this end, their
program at Western will primarily feature works by Brazilian
composers Osvaldo Lacerda, Camargo Guarnieri, and Laércio
de Freitas. Not to be left out, however, will be more recognized
pieces by Aaron Copland (Duo for Flute and Piano) and
Portugese composer Luiz Costa.
