Oct. 1, 2000

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Two accounting experts will discuss how a small business should set up its financial records during a Western Michigan University presentation Monday, Oct. 9, in Battle Creek.

Kathleen Gleaves and Jerri Smith, owners of Pyramid Services Company, will present "Setting Up the Books for a Small Business" from 6 to 8 p.m. at WMU's Kendall Center, 50 West Jackson. The second program in a monthly series co-sponsored by the Southwestern Michigan Urban League, the talk is free and open to the public.

Designed for new business owners, the session will cover the correct way to keep financial records. Gleaves and Smith will touch on such topics as which records to keep, opening a business bank account and preparing for tax reports.

Gleaves and Smith's business, Pyramid Services Company, provides tax preparation, record keeping, financial planning and accounting services. Gleaves is an accountant and holds a master's degree in accounting from WMU's Haworth College of Business. Smith has a decade of experience in tax preparation.
