
Rix is new associate registrar

KALAMAZOO -- Kathy L. Rix has been promoted to the position
of associate registrar at Western Michigan University.
In her new role, Rix will manage the daily operations in the
Office of the Registrar, provide counseling to students on registration
issues, participate in strategic planning for the office and
oversee room scheduling for University courses. She also will
serve as a liaison between her office and other University departments.
She also will sit on WMU's data administration and warehousing
committee, which is devising a new system for housing student
information for historical and reporting purposes. Rix replaces
Douglas J. VanDenBerg who has left the University for another
position.
Rix has served since February 1999 as coordinator for publications,
training and special projects in WMU's Office of the Registrar.
For three years prior to that appointment she held several posts
in the University's Division of Continuing Education, and before
joining WMU, she worked for three years as an instructor for
Kalamazoo Public Schools Adult and Community Education program.
She also held several administrative positions with the Kalamazoo
Public Schools between 1987 and 1995.
Rix serves as co-chair of the professional development committee
of the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions
Officers and she is a member of the American Management Association.
She is a certified professional secretary, and earned her bachelor's
degree from Davenport University and an MBA from WMU.
