Baseball Broncos drop doubleheader to Bowling Green

April 11, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University baseball team was swept by Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference doubleheader on Monday (April 10) at Hyames Field.

The Broncos lost Game 1 4-2 and fell by an 8-5 score in the nightcap. WMU is now 13-15 overall, 2-6 in MAC play. Bowling Green is 13-12 in all games, 5-1 in conference contests. The Broncos play at Michigan State on Tuesday (April 11) at 3 p.m.

Kody Naylor turned in strong effort in the opening game but was saddled with the loss. Naylor went the distance against the Falcons, striking out nine batters and allowing six hits in seven innings. He fanned at least two batters in the first three innings. BGSU scored twice in the second inning and added solo runs in the fourth and fifth to post the win.

Western Michigan finished the opener with just two hits. The first 11 WMU batters were retired by Falcon starter Tony Fontana. Joe Seestadt collected both Bronco safeties. His two-run homer in the fourth inning plated John Toner, who had walked, and gave WMU its lone runs on the day.

The Broncos stayed close in Game 2 as well but could not take the lead on the Falcons. James Galla doubled in two runs in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center. Galla's hit tied the score at 2-2, but the Falcons answered with three runs in the second, one in the third, and a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Toner was 2-3 in the second game, scoring and driving in a run. Jason Richards drove in run and was 1-3 in the nightcap.
