Northern Michigan powers past hockey Broncos

Feb. 5, 2000

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- Steve Rymsha scored his ninth and 10th goals of the season, Mike Bishai added to his team-leading total with his 14th goal, and David Gove garnered his 12th. Those were the highlights for the WMU hockey team in two otherwise disappointing losses at Northern Michigan, Friday and Saturday nights (Feb. 4-5).

The Broncos were out-scored 13-4 for the weekend. Top-10 ranked Northern Michigan won 6-3 on Friday and 7-1 on Saturday. The seven goals in Saturday's blowout were the most given up this season by WMU.

Things started well enough. In Friday's match, the Broncos led, 1-0, after one period, on Rymsha's first goal of the weekend. NMU, however, exploded for four goals and a 4-1 lead at the end of two periods. The Broncos battled back to within one, 4-3, on goals by Bishai and Gove, but that was as close as WMU could get. Northern scored an empty-net goal for the 6-3 final.

Rymsha scored the only Bronco goal in Saturday's 7-1 loss.

WMU falls to 9-14-3 overall and 8-11-3 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.

Bronco hockey can be heard on the Bronco Radio Network (Flagship station WFAT-96.5 FM Kalamazoo), and via broadcast.com on the Bronco Web site <www.wmubroncos.com>.

The Broncos travel to Michigan next weekend (Feb. 11-12), with Friday's contest, a 7:30 p.m. faceoff, being carried live by FOX Sports Net.
