KALAMAZOO -- The WMU women's basketball team returns to Mid-American Conference action on Thursday, Feb. 3, when they host Eastern Michigan at University Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
The Broncos are 7-1 in conference play, the best conference start ever for a WMU women's team, and are in sole possession of the MAC West Division. The Broncos are 5-1 on their home court this season.
On Tuesday (Feb. 1), the Broncos dropped a non-conference game at the University of Florida, 72-56. With the loss, WMU's overall record falls to 10-9 and 3-8 in a tough non-conference schedule which has matched the Broncos with several nationally ranked teams.
Sophomore guard Brianne Gallert led four Broncos in double-figure scoring at Florida. She had 13 points. Twin sister Brooke had 12 points, and senior Danielle Mueller added 11. Florida stopped WMU's two top scoring threats: rookie Kristin Koetsier was held to 10 points, and senior Shelsea Erving was held to five.
Erving led the Broncos with eight rebounds, and Koetsier added
five rebounds to her team-leading season total. Erving also took
sole possession of second place on the Bronco career scoring list
with 1,547 points. She entered the contest tied for second with
her former coach, Pat Charity, who scored 1,542 in her career
as a Bronco player (1978-79, 1981-82).
