MUNCIE, Ind. -- WMU's women's basketball team took sole possession of first place in the MAC West Division with a 75-72 come-from-behind victory at Ball State on Wednesday (Jan. 26).
With the win, the Broncos improve to 9-8 overall and 6-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State falls to 12-6 overall, 5-2 MAC. Going into the contest, the two teams were tied for the MAC West lead with identical records of 5-1.
The Broncos are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they host Northern Illinois, another MAC West rival, at University Arena. The starting time for the game has been changed to 2:30 p.m. to accommodate television coverage of the Bronco men's basketball game versus Miami, which begins at noon.
In the game at Ball State, the Broncos trailed by 13 points at the half, 39-26, but rallied with 49 second-half points for the 3-point victory.
Senior Danielle Mueller led all players with 20 points on 10 of 12 shooting. Classmate Shelsea Erving continues to close in on second place on the WMU all-time scoring list. Erving, third in career scoring, had 15 points and 10 rebounds at Ball State.
Rookie Kristin Koetsier contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds for WMU. Sophomore twin guards Brooke and Brianne Gallert each had 11 assists. Brooke scored seven points, and Brianne got a perfect double-double, with 11 points to match her 11 assists.
