AKRON, Ohio -- WMU's men's basketball team lost, 73-62, at Akron on Sunday, Jan 2. The game snapped a two-game road winning streak and dropped the Broncos to 4-7 on the season, 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference.
Bronco senior Rod Brown led all players with 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting. He had five assists and six rebounds. Junior Jon Powell added a career-high 19 points. Brad Van Timmeren had a game-high eight rebounds and contributed 12 points. Rookie Taylor Bro had seven rebounds and four points in 31 minutes of action.
The Broncos have won three of their past five games. Both losses came against MAC undefeated opponents. Akron, playing in front of 3,060 home fans, improved to 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Western continues Mid-American Conference competition at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 8. The next home contest for the Broncos is Wednesday, Jan. 12, versus Bowling Green. That game begins at 7 p.m. at University Arena.
