Bronco men top Marist, 101-78

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's men's basketball team defeated Marist, 101-78, on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The game was played in front of 1,759 fans at University Arena in Kalamazoo.

It was the first time in 30 years that a WMU team scored 100 or more points in consecutive games. Two nights earlier, the Broncos lost, 127-126, in double overtime to undefeated Marshall. The Broncos improve to 3-6 overall and even their home record at 2-2.

Senior Tadus Williams had a game-high 20 points as the Broncos put six players in double-figure scoring. Freshman Taylor Bro (Rockford, Mich.) had a career night with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Also in double figures for Western were Tony Barksdale (13), Virgil Singleton (12), and Robert Watson (10), adding to his game-high 26 points on Monday night. Emil Mulic contributed eight points and seven rebounds in the Bronco win.

In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, Marist was led in scoring by Drew Samuels, with 18 points. He also had nine rebounds.

Western will play at Richmond on Tuesday, Dec. 28, before returning to conference action at Akron on Sunday, Jan. 2. The next home contest for the Broncos is Wednesday, Jan. 12, versus Bowling Green. That game begins at 7 p.m. at University Arena.
