Nov. 27, 1999

HANOVER, N.H. -- Western Michigan's hockey team (6-6-2 overall, 5-5-2 CCHA) split a pair of non-conference matches with Dartmouth (2-3-1 overall, 1-2-1 ECAC) at Thompson Arena in Hanover. The Broncos blasted Dartmouth for a 7-3 win on Friday (Nov. 26), but came up one goal short in a 4-3 loss on Saturday (Nov. 27).

In Friday's 7-3 victory, WMU exploded for five unanswered goals, four coming in the second period, to take a 5-1 lead at the end of two periods. Senior Corey Waring scored twice in the Broncos' five-goal streak, his fourth and fifth goals of the season. WMU also received goals in the match from freshman Brent Rumble (career first), Anthony Bataglia (first of the season), Steve Rymsha, Jason Redenius, and David Cousineau. Western out-shot Dartmouth, 27-20. WMU goaltender Jeff Reynaert improved to 6-4-2 in net, stopping 17 of 20 shots.

In Saturday's contest, Dartmouth jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Broncos pulled even on goals from Rumble and Rymsha. Dartmouth retook the lead just 22 seconds later and regained a two-goal advantage (4-2) early in the third period. Waring concluded the scoring at 14:56 of the third. Junior Chris Peck got the start in net for the Broncos for the first time in more than a year and stopped 30 of 34 shots.

The Broncos are home on Friday, Dec. 3, for a key CCHA contest versus Ferris State. Faceoff for that match is 7:05 p.m. at Lawson Ice Arena.
