Volleyball Broncos clinch tournament berth with win at EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The WMU volleyball Broncos (20-3 overall, 12-0 MAC) clinched a berth in the 1999 MAC tournament with a 3-1 victory at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 29. The Broncos are the lone remaining undefeated team in the Mid-American Conference and have won 36 of 40 games played in conference competition.

Senior Mandy Whitfield led all players with 15 kills. Classmate Traci Morin had 13 kills and a .321 attack percentage. Morin leads the MAC in hitting percentage. Sophomore Zakiya Pope added 12 kills and had a career-high eight blocks.

Juniors Monyka Paul and Alberta Griffin each contributed 10 kills. Paul also had 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Defensive specialist Kelly Kuharski led the Broncos with a season-high 17 digs.

WMU travels to Toledo on Saturday, Oct. 30, for a 5 p.m. match. The Broncos return to University Arena Nov. 5 and 6 for their final home matches of the regular season, versus Akron and Miami.
