KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's hockey Broncos (3-2-1 overall, 3-2-1 CCHA) won 2-1 versus Bowling Green on Friday night (Oct. 22), but dropped a 5-4 decision to BGSU in Saturday's contest. The matches were played in Lawson Ice Arena before Homecoming crowds of more than 2,000 each night.
Saturday's loss snapped a three-match win streak for WMU. Bowling Green's record is now 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association.
Scoring goals for the Broncos in Saturday's contest were Mike Bishai (BEE-shy), Bryan Farquhar, Daryl Andrews, and David Gove. Andrews and Farquhar got their first goals of the season. Bishai and Gove each have a team-leading four goals for the year. For sophomore Bishai, it was also the fourth goal of his career and the fourth straight match in which he has scored for the Broncos. Sophomore goaltender Jeff Raynaert stopped 28 shots, and WMU out-shot Bowling Green, 35-33.
Bishai and Gove also collected goals in Friday night's 2-1 win over Bowling Green. Raynaert stopped 20 of 21 shots on Friday for his third consecutive win in net.
Western Michigan travels to Lake Superior State for a two-match weekend, Oct. 29-30.
