Volleyball Broncos remain perfect in MAC competition

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The WMU volleyball team improved to 12-3 overall, 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference, with 3-0 wins at Kent State (Oct. 1) and at Buffalo (Oct. 2).

The Broncos have won 11 of their past 12 matches and opened the MAC schedule 4-0 for only the second time in the past eight years.

At Buffalo, the Broncos won 15-11, 15-11, 15-7. The Broncos return home for a Wednesday (Oct. 6) match versus Northern Illinois. That contest begins at 7 p.m. in University Arena.

At Kent State, Oct. 1

At Kent State, WMU won 15-5, 15-13 and 15-7. Since 1980, WMU is 15-0 versus Kent State in games played on Western's home court, including a 3-0 win in 1998, but the Broncos were winless in their previous seven matches played at Kent. Friday's victory was the first for the Broncos at Kent since 1992.

Mandy Whitfield led Western with 16 kills (.406) and contributed nine digs. Traci Morin had 12 kills and a .500 attack percentage. She also had five block assists. Junior defensive specialist Kelly Kuharski had a team-high 10 digs. Setter Jen Nowak assisted her teammates 44 times (14.67 apg).
