Broncos win season home opener before record crowd

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's football team rolled to a 46-28 victory over Youngstown State in their season home opener. The Broncos are 1-1 on the season in non-conference play.

For the second consecutive year, the Broncos attracted more than 35,000 fans to their home opener on "CommUniverCity Night" and set school and conference attendance records with a crowd of 35,874.

WMU's Robert Sanford rushed for 129 yards in the victory. Quarterback Tim Lester, coming off an impressive start against No. 4-rank Florida, completed 21 of 40 passes for 316 yards and five touchdowns against Youngstown State. On special teams, Rashad McDade returned a kick 99 yards for a TD.
