Changes in vehicle registration rates approved

June 25, 1999

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees June 25 approved changes in vehicle registration rates beginning this fall to finance continued improvements in the University's parking system.

The full-time rate for the 1999-2000 academic year will increase by $25, bringing the rate to $175 for motor vehicles and $100 for two-wheeled motor vehicles. Increases for part-time and partial-year rates are smaller.

"As we look to the future, we expect to continue making significant improvements in our parking system," said Robert M. Beam, vice president for business and finance. "We also anticipate the opportunity to acquire additional property adjacent to the campus."

Beam also pointed to previous improvements in the parking system, including a remote parking lot, a campus-wide bus system, and the purchase of the Knollwood Tavern, Discount Den and the Galley sub shop.

Here are the remaining 1999-2000 rates, with the previous rates in parenthesis: Motor
vehicles--part-time academic year and full-time winter/spring/summer, $105 ($90); and part-time winter/spring/summer and all spring/summer, $65 ($54).

Two-wheeled motor vehicles-part-time academic year and full-time winter/spring/summer, $60 ($45); and part-time winter/spring/summer and all spring/summer, $35 ($27).

Rates for any vehicle in the Lawson Ice Arena are: full-time academic year, $85; part-time academic year and full-time winter/spring/summer, $50; and part-time winter/spring/summer and all spring/summer, $30.
