President Floyd comments on arrest of WMU student

April 8, 1999

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University President Elson S. Floyd has issued a statement, following the arrest and arraignment of WMU student Anthony David Pastor in connection with the March 27 disturbance at Michigan State University.

"It has been alleged that one or more of our students were involved in the unfortunate events that took place at Michigan State University following that school's loss to Duke University in the NCAA basketball tournament. As a result, we began investigating these allegations as we became aware of them about 10 days ago. If we find that a Western Michigan University student did in fact take part in the rioting, we will not hesitate to take appropriate action. This is not something that we take lightly nor is it something that we will accept from our students, regardless of where it happens."
