WMU strategic planning group seeks community input

March 16, 1999

KALAMAZOO--The group charged with establishing the strategic and academic vision for Western Michigan University is seeking input via discussion questions on its Web site from community members who have ties to the University.

The University Strategic Planning Group, a committee headed by Dr. Timothy Light, WMU provost and vice president for academic affairs, has posted the discussion questions on its Web page to determine specific concerns and issues that members of the University community would like addressed in the strategic plan. The seven questions can be answered anonymously. Responses are sought from such groups as alumni, current and former students, faculty and staff members and others interested in the University's future direction.

As part of the strategic planning process initiated by WMU President Elson S. Floyd, the committee is charged with preparing preliminary recommendations for the University strategic plan. While USPG is meeting with 30 focus groups comprised of University community members, the discussion questions will allow the group to ascertain a wider cross-section of opinions.

"These questions are our opportunity to reach out beyond the focus groups," says Margaret Von Steinen, USPG member.

Individuals are asked to respond to the questions by March 30. The questions can be found through a link to the strategic planning group's Web page, which can be found on the WMU home page at <http://www.wmich.edu>.
