Veldkamp elected to regional office

March 12, 1999

KALAMAZOO -- Stevan J. Veldkamp, assistant director for student activities and leadership programs at Western Michigan University, has been elected vice president of the Association of Fraternity Advisors Region 3.

The association advocates educational policies and procedures that aid fraternity and sorority development throughout the United States and Canada. Region 3 covers Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.

Veldkamp will serve as regional vice president for one year and sit on the association's international board of directors. For the previous two years, he was the Michigan area coordinator for the regional organization.

At WMU, Veldkamp serves as the primary adviser to the University's 40 fraternities and sororities. He came to WMU in 1994 as coordinator of Greek life and played a key role in the establishment of an academic, leadership and social compact between WMU and its fraternities and sororities. The agreement is the first of its kind at a public university in Michigan.

His prior experience includes positions as an educational consultant for a marketing firm in Cincinnati and as a student adviser at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He also served as an alumni relations assistant, a student life office coordinator, student activities/university promotions manager and assistant to the vice president for university relations, all at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich.
