November 23, 1998

KALAMAZOO -- The volleyball Broncos (19-12, 11-7 MAC) completed the 1998 regular season with a 3-0 victory on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Bowling Green. On Tuesday, Nov. 24, the #6 seed Broncos travel to #3 seed Northern Illinois for the first-round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

Other first-round MAC tournament pairings have #8 Central Michigan at #1 Miami (Ohio), #7 Marshall at #2 Ball State, and #5 Ohio at #4 Akron. All first round contests are Nov. 24. The semi-finals, Nov. 27, and finals, Nov. 28, will be played on the home court of the highest remaining seed.

On Friday, Nov. 20, the Broncos lost 3-1 at Kent State. Stefanie Rotunno moved into second place on the WMU all-time kills list during the Kent State match with 1,371 career kills. She added 16 more kills on Saturday at Bowling Green and tied a WMU record with six services aces in the three-game match. That school record was set earlier this season by junior Traci Morin.

In Friday's match at Kent State, Morin led the Broncos with 17 kills and 13 digs. Setter Jen Nowak had 55 assists for a 13.75 assists per game average. Nowak is among the top five in the MAC in assists per game. Junior Mandy Whitfield had a double double in both weekend contests. She had 12 kills and 17 digs at Kent State and 13 kills and 11 digs at Bowling Green.

The Broncos' 11-7 record is their best in the Mid-American Conference since 1991, when WMU was 11-5 in the MAC.
