Teaching with pizzazz

KALAMAZOO -- An internationally acclaimed motivational speaker and consultant will visit Kalamazoo Tuesday, Dec. 1, to tell area teachers how they can begin "Teaching with Pizzazz."

Dr. Mary Bigler will meet with area teachers and administrators at 4 p.m. in Room 2000 of Schneider Hall on the Western Michigan University campus. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by WMU's chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, an education honorary, in conjunction with the College of Education and the college's Alumni Society.

Bigler is a professor in the Department of Teacher Education at Eastern Michigan University. She has been the keynote speaker at conferences, programs and in-service meetings throughout the United States, Canada, Africa and Europe, sharing the podium with such notables as Jesse Jackson, Jack Anderson, Ann Landers, Leo Buscaglia, Ralph Nader and Zig Zigler.

She has conducted hundreds of workshops on reading and writing for teachers, administrators and parents and appeared on numerous radio and television programs. She also has served as an advisor to governmental and educational institutions as well as for business and industry.
