KALAMAZOO -- Aspiring authors will have an opportunity to hone their skills with some of America's most prominent writers at the Third Coast Writers' Conference Thursday through Saturday, April 30-May 2, at Western Michigan University.
Participants will be selected on the basis of manuscript submissions, which must be received by March 1.
This is the 11th year for the conference, designed as a celebration of literature in which featured writers share their work and insights into the process of writing. Participants will be able to enhance and expand their skills through workshops, panel discussions, public readings and question-and-answer sessions with acclaimed writers who serve as the faculty for the conference.
This year's faculty includes poets Donald Justice, Sharon Bryan, Susan Hahn and Angela Sorby, fiction writers Elizabeth McCracken, Pinckney Benedict, Lisa Lenzo and Sharon Solwitz, and creative nonfiction writer Michael Steinberg.
Writers may enter manuscripts in one category only: poetry or fiction. They should submit three to five poems or a fiction work/creative nonfiction work of 2,500 words or less.
Those selected will be notified in late March. A $125 registration fee will be due April 10. Housing will be available on campus for less than $20 per night.
