KALAMAZOO -- Stephen M. Keizer of Portage has been named director of annual giving in the development office at Western Michigan University. Keizer replaces Linda L. Jones, who has accepted a position as a research and program officer in WMU's Office of the Vice President for Research.
Keizer had been assistant director of annual giving as well as director of the phonathon and Mike Gary Athletic Fund. He will continue directing these areas, in addition to managing the annual fund and all other annual giving programs, including the reunion giving program.
From 1994 to 1996, Keizer was assistant director for facilities in University Recreation Programs and Facilities, helping to manage the University's $35 million Student Recreation Center.
The Grand Rapids native graduated from Forest Hills Central High School in 1982, then attended Hope College in Holland for three years before transferring to WMU and earning two degrees.
He received a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1989 and a master of arts degree with an emphasis in athletic administration in 1991. Currently, he is completing a doctoral degree at the University in educational leadership.
While working on his master's degree, Keizer served as a graduate assistant in the development office and was a ninth grade basketball coach and part-time elementary school physical education teacher at Comstock East Elementary School in Kalamazoo.
After completing his graduate assistantship, he was named a WMU presidential intern. He spent the first year of his internship in the development office, working on special projects such as the restoration of the Gilmore Alumni House. He spent the second year in the alumni relations office, serving as the advisor to the Student Alumni Association and liaison to area alumni chapters as well as working on special projects.
He is the son of the Rev. Thomas D. and Erma Keizer of Rockford.
