Western Winds

Conducted by: Dr. Robert Spradling

The Western Winds are comprised primarily of students in the graduate winds program and their studio faculty mentors. This ensemble performs a wide variety of large chamber works spanning the literature of the past five hundred years. Literature is selected for groups ranging from the Viennese Octet to larger works of twenty or more players. The primary focus, however, is that each work is performed with one player per part as dictated by the composer.

This ensemble typically will meet for three or four rehearsals and then present prepared material in concert. Graduate students benefit from the experience of performing next to their studio faculty mentors and preparing the literature in a professional atmosphere.
