Dr. John Lychner

Associate Professor of Music Education
Conductor, Concert Band, Fall Semester

Dr. John Lychner is a specialist in instrumental music education and conducts the University Concert Band. His Ph.D. from Florida State is in music education. He has done additional studies at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and at the University of Nottingham in England. His public school career includes elementary and middle school experiences as well as high school marching and concert band in the Lindbergh School District, St. Louis, Missouri.

He has worked as a woodwind coach and rehearsal assistant with the Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra as well as a summer music camp instructor, church organist, and church choir director.

His research in the areas of aesthetic response to music and teacher education has been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education and the Journal of Band Research. He has served as state CMENC advisor for the Michigan Music Educators Association and as national co-chair for MENC's Learning and Development Special Research Interest Group. He has also served as national co-chair for MENC's Affective Response Special Research Interest Group.
