Help support the Children's Trauma Assessment Center
While the Children's Trauma Assessment Center is a program supported by the Department of Social Work at Western Michigan University, the clinic must rely on outside funding to provide affordable services to children and families. Donations are important to ensure the availability of assessment and treatment services, especially for families that have limited access to resources, and to provide access to services that are trauma informed and proven to work effectively with traumatized children.
Since opening in March 2000, the clinic has provided comprehensive assessments, advocacy, and specific medical and occupational therapy recommendations for more than 1,300 children. The center is the only facility in southwest Michigan that provides transdisciplinary services and consultation for abused and neglected children. In addition, the center is one of just five regional fetal alcohol assessment and diagnostic facilities in all of Michigan. Research indicates that early assessment and diagnosis of child trauma can significantly minimize physiological and psychological harm to children, reducing the risk of later substance abuse, academic failure, delinquency, and mental health problems.
Currently, we have a waiting list of more than nine months and cannot meet the demands for our services. We need your help. Please consider joining our effort. We are in continuous need of donations to support our direct work with children and families. Donations can be made through the Western Michigan University Foundation.
