Cara works primarily with the clinical trauma assessments and advocacy for children seen at the Children's Trauma Assessment Center. Cara also coordinates the education and supervision of student interns which include up to 10 interns each semester representing the disciplines of Social Work, Nursing, Speech-Language Pathology, and Occupational Therapy.
She has presented locally and statewide on Complex Trauma; Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma: a Workshop for Resource Parents; and Secondary Trauma. Cara has also worked on the development of Critical Incidents Teams throughout Michigan. She has been trained in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Real Life Heroes, and Level I of Sensory Motor Psychotherapy.
As a Detroit Trauma-Informed Project (D-TIP) grant staff member, Cara provides training and support for the development of a more integrated and trauma-informed response to children in the Detroit and Detroit metropolitan area, working primarily with child-welfare and mental health agencies.
