Message from President Montgomery

Ed Montgomery, President

On behalf of the Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo communities, I would like to welcome you to our campus for the fifth annual Summer Conference on Livable Communities. We are proud to once again host this year’s conference, organized around the theme of removing barriers to mobility and the importance of active transportation in our lives.

Geographic mobility is among the fundamental aspects to the well-being of our citizenry, and one of the major issues confronting our changing demographics. We need the innovative ideas and collaboration of professionals from across diverse backgrounds to remove barriers limiting the mobility options of those who are aging or differently abled. This conference focuses on the assurance that all individuals have the ability to fully participate and thrive as active members in our communities by removing isolation as a barrier to community engagement. We aim to contribute to the long-term health and viability of our communities through providing access to safe, reliable, and sustainable public transportation.

Thank you for joining us in this important work, and I would like to extend a special note of thanks to our sponsors for their continued support.

With warm regards,
