STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES
TECHNICAL THEATRE OPPORTUNITIES
All majors and minors, regardless of emphasis area within the Department of Theatre, are urged to participate in all facets of arts management and technical production available in the University Theatre Season. Some of the Design and Technical Production classes, and the Introduction to Theatre class require production crew participation. All other technical preparation for our productions rely on volunteer service.

DESIGN OPPORTUNITIES

In the interest of furthering the opportunities for outstanding students in the field of design, the Department of Theatre often makes available assignments in design within the regular University Theatre production season.

There is no formal application procedure. It is wise for the interested student to make his or her interest known to the Director of Design and Technical Production. Assignments may include scenic, lighting, costume, or properties design for Shaw or Multiform Theatre productions. Students are judged and selected on the basis of the criteria established for a given position. Recommendations of student designers are made by the Design and Technical theatre faculty for approval by the full faculty. All students designers are supervised by a member of the Design and Technical Production faculty.

DIRECTING OPPORTUNITIES
After a student has successfully completed Directing I & II, he/she may apply to direct a Footlights I Production (one-act). The student then may apply to direct a Footlights II (full-length) Production. See Footlights guidelines within this document.

STAGE MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Stage Manager (SM) positions for the Studio Series and Mainstage Productions are assigned positions. Applications to stage manage a production should be given to the faculty Production Stage Manager. These positions are assigned by faculty Production Stage Manager, in consultation with the director of the production and the Chairman. Applications consist of a cover letter and current resume. Notices will be posted on the callboard for application deadlines.

Information regarding the responsibilities of stage manager can be found in the University Theatre's Stage Management Standard Operating Procedures Handbook. See the faculty Production Stage Manager.

Students who are interested in stage management are advised to develop a strong background in directing and technical theatre. Production assignments suggested include Assistant Director as well as serving as a member of a preparation or running crew for any Studio Series or Mainstage Production. Inquiries can be made to the faculty Production Stage Manager about these jobs.
