| Admittance to any program of study in the creative and performing arts
requires more of the student than course work; it assumes and requires an emotional
and philosophical commitment as well.
The theatre program at Western Michigan University provides numerous and diverse
opportunities for students to translate individual needs, interests, enthusiasm,
and questions about theatre into practical ways to explore, discover, contribute
and grow. Through regular and consistent involvement, students will be able to
increase knowledge, gain insight, and further develop their craft.
During your years as a theatre major, it is expected that you will fulfill
all necessary work required for your degree and actively participate in the
program's many facets:
 |
Attendance at University Theatre productions. Majors receive
complimentary tickets to most shows as a way in which the University Theatre
program supports your growth even as you, by your attendance, support each
other; |
 |
Participation in the production program on a consistent basis. |
The Department of Theatre upholds a strict code of
behavior, enforcing the following regulations:
|
 |
Smoking is not permitted by Performance or Music Theatre Performance majors. Should you be found to be a smoker, your status
as a major will be jeopardized; |
 |
The possession or distribution of alcohol by students in the Gilmore Theatre
Complex is strictly prohibited; |
 |
The use, possession or distribution of narcotics or other illegal
substances is strictly prohibited; |
 |
Should you be found to be under the influence of alcohol or
illegal substances during a work or production assignment, your status as
a major will be jeopardized; |
 |
Should you be found to have plagiarized, as defined from the
WMU Undergraduate Catalog: intentionally, knowingly, or carelessly presenting
the work of another as one's own (i.e., without proper acknowledgment of
the source), your status as a major will be jeopardized; |
 |
The Department will not tolerate unexcused absences, lateness,
disorderly behavior, or poor attitude at classes, meetings, rehearsals,
tech calls, performances, or department events. |
The Board of Trustees at WMU approved
a student code of conduct
whereby all WMU students must abide.
