ACADEMIC POLICIES & INFORMATION
|
ABSENCES/TARDINESS |
| |
The Department of Theatre views production activities as extensions of
classroom activities. You are expected to be present and punctual for all
rehearsals and crew calls. Individual instructors will provide guidelines for
absences and tardiness in course syllabi.
WMU respects the religious beliefs of its students and faculty and will make
necessary and reasonable provisions to accommodate the exercise of religious
beliefs. It is the policy of WMU that students be excused from class for the
purpose of observing major religious holidays without penalty provided the
student has made such a request in writing at least two weeks in advance to
the class instructor.
Missed class time because of major religious observances does not excuse the
student from class work or examinations. The student must provide faculty with
a two week formal, written request identifying how completion of the course work
will be accomplished. Faculty will provide students making such written requests
with a reasonable amount of time to make up the work missed in each class.
|
| GRADING, PROBATION, LEAVING THE PROGRAM AND DISMISSAL |
| |
Any student on Academic Probation (below a 2.0 cumulative
GPA; is ineligible for student employment, casting, volunteer work, or
to be a part of the production process which includes enrollment in
THEA 2900, Theatre Practicum.
A student who leaves the program at any time may be asked to reaudition/interview
for readmittance. Acceptance will also depend on program capacity.
If a student receives a grade lower than "C" in a course required
for the theatre major, that student will be put on departmental warning (i.e.,
the student must evidence improvement in order to continue in the program).
If a student repeats a course and receives a grade lower than "C,"
that student will be dismissed from the program. If a student receives a grade
lower than "C" in two courses in his/her designated area of study
(e.g., a Performance student receives two low grades in Performance courses,
a Tech/Design student receives two low grades in Tech/Design courses and as
applies to Theatre Education and Music Theatre Performance courses), that
student will be dismissed from the program. |
| PLAGIARISM |
| |
Plagiarism is intentionally, knowingly, or carelessly presenting the
work of another as one's own (i.e., without proper acknowledgment of the
source). The sole exception to the requirement of acknowledging sources
is when the ideas, information, etc., are common knowledge.
Instructor should provide clarification about the nature of plagiarism.
For full description of clarification, refer to the WMU Undergraduate
Catalog (p 274).
Faculty members are responsible for identifying any specific style/format
requirement for the course. Examples include but are not limited to American
Psychological Association (APA) style and Modern Languages Association (MLA)
style.
|
| REQUIRED COURSEWORK |

All students of the Department of Theatre must complete each of the
courses within their area with a grade of C or better. Each program is
designed for the students who want to prepare for graduate study in theatre
or advanced, specialized training. The Department of Theatre offers a
program combining a broad background in theatre with courses of study in
performance, design and technical production, music theatre performance,
theatre education, or arts management. |
