How
is technology reshaping literature classrooms?
Just as the printing
press changed the way print texts were produced, accessed, and distributed,
the Internet is reshaping literature today.
In recent years, more and more literary texts, both canonical and new,
are being published in electronic text archives.
At the same time, the web is changing the face of literary
scholarship, as academics create resources that take advantage of
the immersive and encyclopedic digital medium.
The Internet makes all of these resources are available to teachers
and teacher educators. For a good start, see
Dr. Allen Webb's resources for teaching literature.
The new digital medium is also producing new
literary forms. Democratic and creative in impulse, these forms
include hypertext fiction, electronic magazines, web logs, wikis, and
even video games. They may even make their
way into a classroom near you.
