What
will the classroom of the future look like? On a campus dedicated to wireless technology, the English Education Lab (EEL) at Western Michigan University is in many ways the classroom of the future, modeling successful integration of sophisticated technology into teaching and learning. Over two years in the making, the EEL features twenty-four student laptops equipped with wireless cards, two storage carts, three desktop computers and accompanying printers, three scanners, a digital camera, and a portable data projector. Desks and tables in the EEL are mounted on wheels and entirely mobile, allowing the classroom to be arranged in rows of desks, small groups, islands, or theater seating. The resulting flexibility makes the EEL a perfect environment for students to collaborate on technology projects. Take a virtual tour of the English Education Lab. |
