Get Involved: Become a Student Ambassador

Student Ambassador Program

The WMU Student Ambassador Program employs over 100 current WMU students who work to give prospective students and their families a taste of college life at WMU. A student ambassador provides facts, knowledge, and advice that prospective students need while making one of the most important decisions of their lives.

The Student Ambassador Office is seeking applicants for both Telecounselors and Gold Guides for fall 2013. Traits of a successful Student Ambassador include:

  • An outgoing personality
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Passion for WMU
  • A strong willingness to learn about WMU

Telecounselors are active in recruiting students by contacting prospective students and their families by phone to answer any questions they may have about WMU. In addition to telecounseling, responsibilities include: giving campus tours, serving on student panels, attending two training sessions per week, and participating in campus-wide recruitment events. Telecounseling requires you to commit to a set schedule of 8 hours per week, as well as two tours per week.
