Background
Howdy, howdy! My name is Travis, and I am fourth year student here at WMU! I am majoring in Organizational Communications and my minor is in Religion. Originally I’m from a Jenison, Michigan (it’s a small little suburb of Grand Rapids, and if you were in marching band you’ve probably heard of us). In high school I was involved in theatre, marching band, journalism and teaching middle school students how to act!
Going away to college was something I never really considered doing until I was midway through my senior year. Deciding on what college to go to was a simple process. I applied to five schools and when I got into WMU the other four went out the door. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, but I knew that Western had a lot of strong programs so I knew whatever program I went into I would be successful. Also the people around campus made me feel like WMU was my new home.
I lived in the residence halls for two years. In my second year I was a Resident
Assistant in Zimmerman hall (which is for 2nd year students and older). Through
my years at Western I’ve had an opportunity to be involved with a lot
of stuff. The first of which was Haunted Hall, a haunted house on campus where
we scare people for donations to non-profits around Kalamazoo. I was also an
Orientation Student Leader the summer of 2007, a Fall Welcome ambassador, First
Year Seminar co-facilitator and also had the opportunity to form an organization
on campus called Students for East Campus. Currently I am the publicity chair
for a volunteer organization on campus called Alternative Spring Break. There
are defiantly hundreds of organizations on campus, which allows you to get
involved
with
just about
anything
you’re interested in. Along with the organizations I’m involved
with I also like to go downtown to just walk around and go to the local shops.
I also enjoy going to the sporting events, most of all the football games.
The best thing about the sporting events is they are all free to us as students.
I also play a lot of Ultimate Frisbee. Whether its pick-up, Kalamazoo Ultimate
Disc League, or even WMU's club team YelloW MUstard.
