Make sure to go see your professors if you are starting to have any trouble with your classes. They are there to help you and they want to see you succeed!
My name is Taylor and I am currently a sophomore at Western Michigan University. I am from Dollar Bay, Michigan, which us about ten hours away from Kalamazoo in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I attended Dollar Bay High School there and graduated in 2011.
When it came time to apply to college, I applied many different universities; I had no idea where I wanted to go. The one thing I knew is that I wanted to get out of the U.P. During my junior year of high school, I told my guidance counselor that I was interested in becoming either a social worker or and occupational therapist. He was the one that introduced me to Western, and told me about what great health programs it had. That summer, my parents and I decided to take a tour. Once I was on campus, I could definitely picture myself there. It was the perfect size and everyone I met was so excited and happy to be a bronco! During my senior year, I volunteered with an occupational therapist and decided that was the profession I wanted to pursue. Western's occupational therapy program has a 4 + 1 program, which meant that if I got accepted into the program, I could graduate with a master's degree in five years. I also was accepted to the Lee Honors College. These two things sealed the deal that Western was the place for me.
At Western, I am involved in the Student Occupational Therapy Association and my sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. I have met so many great friends and had so many leadership opportunities through these organizations! I currently live on campus and I enjoy it a lot! Last year my friends and I signed up for residence halls together so we all live on the same floor. We are always in each other's rooms and it's become a home away from home. Living in the residence halls has also been great because I am within a short walking distance of all my classes. I do not have a car, so it is nice that I don't have to walk far! In my free time I like to go to movies, hang out with friends, and go to Bronco hockey games.
